5 Reasons Why University Students Get Addicted to Drugs | Students Experience
Substance abuse is very common among teenagers. Unfortunately, in addition to cigarettes students also use hashish, ICE, cannabis, cocaine, and several others devastating products available in the market. The more potent the drug, the more devastating the effect on the person. According to the report of UNODC, more than 7.6 million Pakistanis use drugs, most of them are adult students and the ratio of male students is higher 78% whereas the female ratio is 22%. This figure is as big as that out of 27 persons one person is drug-addicted and the number is increasing to 40,000 per year. Moreover, those who get addicted to these drugs at a younger age can become dependent on these drugs for the rest of their life. But what encourages students to use drugs in the first place? Some of the factors that attract or sometimes force young adults towards drugs are:
Peer Pressure
Students in their educational institutes
are surrounded by many other students who are involved in drugs. Usually, every
student has a project at the end of the semester. Students have to spend most
of their time together. Sometimes someone who is not been to drugs has to spend
his day with a drug-addicted person. Now that person will get second-hand drugs
through his class fellow because his group member can’t live without drugs.
Course Load
At the end of the semester, students may
have to work all day and night because the deadline for different subjects can
be in the same week. In the above situation, if one student is addicted to drugs,
they will take them to relax and also encourage others. For example, he may tell
you that taking on a puff of drugs will make you relax and come out of sleep. Now
there is a chance that curiosity develops in your mind by looking at your
friend because by taking some kind of cannabis person focus ability will
increase and you get a dose to work some extra hours. There is a very real possibility
you can get addicted too.
Night Parties: -
On weekdays, students have a lot of
academic burdens, that’s why students are eagerly waiting for Friday night. On
weekend nights students go to different night concerts, sheesha cafes, pubs. Students
think they go there for recreational activities and they will try this stuff
for a “one-time” experiment, they just want to try something new. The worst
part is that by using it the first time they become addicted to it and they
become a frequent user of these drugs. How fast a person will become drug-addicted is varies from person to person, but at the start, everyone tried
drugs for recreational use.
Availability of Drugs: -
Currently buying drugs from a supplier is
as much easier as buying toffee from the shop. Additionally, universities don’t
have a proper mechanism to check whether a student has any narcotic substance
or not. These students consume drugs in front of other students without any
restriction, this can lead other students also join them. Most of the time
their friends are suppliers who are also involved in drugs. So, there are not
any constraints for students to buy this stuff.
Experimental Curiosity: -
Many teenagers who are involved in smoking
begin to take drugs because they are curious about how it feels like. As a
teenager, they a delusion from their friends that the one who smokes weed will
become a pilot, which means he will be disconnected from all his stress,
problems, anxiety and move to another world.
Prevention of Drugs Abuse: -
- ·
Whenever a group of students sits
for a study or final project, there should be a fixed rule. If anyone wants to
take any sort of drugs, he/she should go somewhere else and take drugs. The
rest of the students have to force him, not to take drugs in front of them.
- ·
From the start, individuals
should aware of those who are addicted to drugs and how they pass their life.
Individuals should observe them closely so they better understand how difficult
is drugs addicted people’s life is and how much they have to be dependent on
drugs for their survival.
- ·
You should start working on
your project from day one, don’t accumulate all your work for the end. By doing
this you have less burden and have a proper time to take rest. For the drugs,
you have to be completely aware that you come out of stress and be focused for
the short run. But in long run, it will harm your mental as well as physical
health.
- ·
Instead of going to bars and
sheesha cafes, students should join a different sports club and go to the gym.
Through this way, students not only safe themselves from bad company, but also
become physically more active.
Good work♥
